Sustainable management of strategic metals : from extraction to sobriety and the preservation of biodiversity

Gestion durable des métaux stratégiques : de l'extraction à la sobriété et à la préservation de la biodiversité

October 12th – 15th, 2025. Nancy, amphithéâtre de la présidence de l'Université de Lorraine, 34 cours Léopold.

Context of the workshop: The 16th edition of the international Franco-Chinese workshop ECOLAND is joining forces for the first time with the LUE CIRSET program to strengthen international cooperation on strategic metals issues by considering the entire value chain, from extraction and the management of its environmental consequences on the environment to the consumption of metals, focusing on ways to achieve sobriety and the preservation of biodiversity. This transdisciplinary project will bring together researchers from disciplines ranging from geosciences and materials sciences to soil and life sciences. Its aim will be to encourage synergistic research on an international scale to propose cutting-edge, innovative solutions to the issues raised by the growing need for strategic metals. This workshop will form the first two days of the biennial international conference organized since 2017 by LabEx Ressources 21, which will give way to the CIRSET program from April 2025, the aim of which is to provide a holistic vision of the materials value chain by applying the principles of the circular economy.

Organizers: Institut National de Recherche pour l’Agriculture, l’Alimentation et l’Environnement (INRAE), Université
de Lorraine (UL), Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), South China Agricultural University (SCAU).
