After 10 years at the head of the LSE, our colleague Christophe Schwartz has handed over to Stéphanie Ouvrard, our new director. Stéphanie has enlisted the support of Catherine Sirguey and Geoffroy Séré, who will be deputy directors of the unit. The LSE's positioning remains firmly anchored on the scientific subjects that have earned it local, national and international recognition: responding to the questions raised by the major anthropogenic pressures on soils, by developing knowledge of how they function, their interactions with living organisms and the environment, and the optimisation of ecosystem services.
In order to continue exploring and breaking new ground in these fascinating areas, our research will be structured into 5 thematic areas to meet the challenges of tomorrow:
- Characterisation and inventory of SUITMAs (Soils of Urban, Industrial, Traffic, Mining and military Areas)
- Dynamics of SUITMA constituents
- Functioning of plant/fauna holobionts in SUITMAs
- Development of ecological engineering
- Taking account of SUITMAs in regional planning
