As part of the Viti-Biodiv-GE project, the research focuses on characterizing bacterial communities associated with grapevines and investigating their potential role in vine health and tolerance to decline, particularly grapevine trunk diseases and water stress. The work includes studying bacterial diversity in the rhizosphere oh healthy vines and vines affected by trunk diseases, as well as analysing the physicochemical properties of vineyard soils. In the laboratory, the characterization of beneficial bacterial strains is being pursued in order to identify high-potential bacterial consortia and assess their potential to promote grapevine growth and health under controlled conditions. These activities combine soil analyses, microbiological characterization, plant experiments, and bioinformatics analyses, with the overall objective of contributing to the development of sustainable strategies to improve grapevine tolerance to decline.
